Disclaimer: this faction contains very dark themes, including the heavy suggestion of violence and death. It is meant to be a reflection of the dark and criminal side of the fictional world of Palleth, and is in no way intended to glorify the actions of those within it. This is a space for users to explore darker stories and plots with their grems, to see how a character would handle extreme or terrible situations, and we urge anyone not comfortable with such themes to avoid the Pit Fighter faction. We want everyone to stay safe and comfortable within GremCorps!

“Pit fighting. It's a phrase that would give any decent grem a chill to hear. The threat of abduction in recent times has only grown, and there are owners who tell tales of being taken in the night to young grems in order to keep them in line, the same way a parent might tell their child of monsters to scare them into behaving."

"But the fighting Pits are no myth. They are as real and as brutal and cruel as any story would have you believe, and once a grem is taken for their purposes, they don't come back."

Grems in this underground industry were once valiant pets and pals to families and friends a-like, but were stolen from their safe havens to be sold into illegal black markets as fighters for people who enjoy Grem fighting. In this illegal sport, these Grems are forced to forget their old lives and fight for their new owner in the rings against other Grems for cash.

There are several roles within this violent culture that grems fill. Each of these roles tend to come with a certain measure more or less of "freedom", with Bait grems tending to have the least amount of freedom, and Scouts tending to have a great deal more. The amount of freedom entrusted to a grem within the fighting community is largely determined by their behavior. A grem tending to be disobedient or having a bad habit of attempting to escape or fight back against its owner will quickly find itself living the rest of its miserable existence in chains, but many grems learn to live with their situation, and some even embrace or grow to love the lifestyle.

Illegal fighting Pits are frequented by many patrons, but most serious participants will align with one of two known crime groups, Mind's Ie or Scorch. While participating in the underground fighting Pits independent of either gang isn't unheard of, it is highly inadvisable. Pledging to either group will buy you protection from the other, and the promise that the one you join won't try to stamp you and your crew out. All illegal activity that goes on in the city goes through one of these two factions, or is subject to the ire of the leaders of each. Unfortunately, joining one automatically makes you something of an adversary to the other. Sorry about that.

Little is known at this time about these two crime lords and their inner workings. Unconfirmed rumors place a grem named Gillian at the head of Mind's Ie, while Scorch is speculated to be lead by the unlikely Reginald of the East side, a grem well known for his many successful businesses. Grems who are placed in service of either of these groups will be tattooed or branded somewhere on their body with the corresponding symbol, usually somewhere discreet.

Scout
This is one of the most important roles, and by far the most despicable, reserved for grems who not only accept the hideous lifestyle, but revel in it. Scouts are the most trusted of the roles, being given complete freedom to leave their owners and go out into the city on their own or in pairs to find fresh recruits for the rings. These grems will find candidates they think are suitable for the Pits and abduct them from their homes, using whatever means necessary to bring them back to their owners, at which point their ears will be brutally hacked off to rid them of their tracking numbers, dooming them to a life of unwilling servitude to the cruelest people imaginable. Scouting is often performed by current or retired Fighters. (200 Standing)
Bouncer
This role is more freedom-oriented, belonging to grems who are tasked with guarding or overseeing the Pits during fights. These grems perform a number of tasks, including guarding the entrances to keep pedestrians out and keep a lookout for law enforcement, breaking up fights within the groups, and sometimes refereeing or splitting up grems after a match has been declared over. A certain measure of trust must be earned before grems will be given this role, and it is often filled by retired fighters. (150 Standing)
Fighter
These grems are the bread and butter of the underground fighting community, and by far the most common role filled by a grem. They are the champions of the rings, and their entire purpose in life is to win. Owners typically have a great deal of money riding on their Fighters, so the stakes are higher than just the pride of the grems. It's not uncommon for owners to beat or starve their grems for losing, so matches tend to be fought as if lives hang in the balance - and they sometimes do. Fighters sometimes function as Bouncers or Scouts when not in the ring, depending on their circumstances. (100 Standing)
Bait
These are the grems who just can't make it in the rings. Many factors can contribute to a grem being a dud, but most of it boils down to general disposition. Grems either don't have the heart or the will to fight, often brought into the rings in shock or grieving after being torn away from loving owners and families. Others simply lack the strength or conviction to be effective fighters. These grems are essentially used as living punching bags and practice dummies for Fighters, who need to learn to fight without risking the damage or loss of other Fighters, who are considered valuable assets. Most Bait grems don't survive long, though some manage to hang on just enough to get by. This is by far the most miserable position one can find themselves in within the fighting Pits. (0 Standing)
