Evie's Dilemma
🎃🎃🎃
On the side of a street you’ve walked hundreds of times before is a new sight; a traveler's cart, set up off to the side. A few chalk boards lean up against it, listing ingredients and locations, the canvas awning stretched out in a mishmash of pied cloths to provide shade for the cart’s owner. In front of it sits a somewhat familiar Grem2, though you rack your brain to see if you can recall her. Her eyes turn up at the sight of you and her smile is familial.
“Well, ‘bout time!” She cries out. The pumpkimp on her lap, old and wrinkled, doesn’t even open an eye in greeting. “I’ve been waiting for you, names Evie, if y’don’t know. I’m lookin’ for some help!”
She continues speaking, but the more you look, you realize that her pumpkimp looks to be… in pretty bad shape? Like a pumpkin left out too long after Halloween, it’s shell has become lumpy in a way that looks like he’s gone soft, his warts discolored. You’re beginning to get a little worried, because he hasn’t moved, even though she’s been talking a while now about how a bee took her arm, when Evie puts her single hand on the little fella’s head and he finally opens his eyes. The flame at the end of his tail seemed to be withering, but it flares up as he gives his tail a few happy wags at the attention. The sense of relief you feel at his movement is unreal.
“But enough about m’bee problem, as you can see, my lil’ fella here, Crumpet, he’s getting on in years but.. Well, I’m not ready to let ‘im go jus’ yet..” Evie says these words softly, fondly, and you feel for her. “I was wonderin’ if you could help me. There’s a potion my grandma told me about, supposed to help ‘em feel rejuvenated when they’re gettin’ on in years. Problem is, I don’t wanna leave him too long, he gets nervous all alone nowadays, don’tcha Crumpet?” The pumpkimp gives his tail a few hearty thumps in reply.
“If you could go an’ fetch me one of these ingredients I need over on that there board, it’d be a big help. I need a couple of each item, so I’m only askin’ ya to bring me one of the three, whatever’s easiest for ya, I wouldn’t want ta put ya in too much harms way and I got other helpers. I’ll even pay ya somehow, o’course. I got lots of trinkets from travelin’ ‘n such, I’m sure we can find ya somethin’ good! It’d mean the world t’me! An’ t’Crumpet!”
Crumpet turns his head towards you, a face so wrinkled and folded in on itself it goes past gross directly into cute. Who could say no to that old smiling face???

-
- FFA/N.O: (Free For All: for anyone who currently owns a grem. (If you own an undesigned/unapproved grem myo slot you would also fall into this category. If preferred you may submit your entry either using someone else’s grem, or using one of the GremNPCs until your myo slot is designed.))

= FAQ =
Do I have to use the NPCS as an FTO/ N-O, or can I use other peoples’ grems?
► No, you are allowed to use other people’s grems in your entry so long as it still follows the requirements above!
Do I need to include my own grem/NPC’s in my entry?
► No! As long as it still meets our entry requirements, you are able to make an entry entirely filled with other people’s grems as a “gift art” submission if you like. The entry will still count as yours, but any grems present within it can belong to other people. Please be sure to ask before including someone else’s grems in your entry. )
What if I trade away the grem that I entered with, while the prompt is still ongoing?
► This is fine. In cases such as these we will simply consider the piece a “gift art” entry.
What is considered an “environmental” background. Do I have to draw a large nature illustration?
► No. In this context “environmental” simply refers to your grem being in a setting. They shouldn’t be floating in an empty transparent space with no background, or encompassed entirely by a single solid-color or simple gradient background. There should be a recognizable setting/place around them.
What kind of setting can I draw my grem in?
► Your entry should clearly depict the setting presented within the prompt. You are free to interpret the setting as you like and do not have to exactly copy what is shown in the example image, but as an example, if the prompt takes place at a countryside fair and your entry shows your grem in space, then it will not count as a valid entry to that prompt.
Am I allowed to show blood/violence in my prompt entry?
► Yes, though keep in mind that your entry should still follow the prompt objective. Anything that would not fit thematically into the prompt scenario is subject to be declined (for example if the objective is to collect slugs and you draw your grem getting beaten up, this will not be considered a valid entry.)
► We also wish to maintain a pg-13 rating for the general comfort of our members, so anything that would be considered too explicit is liable to be rejected. Please be sure your entries still follow our general rules and guidelines for what we consider acceptable submissions to the group. If you are not sure about your idea, then feel free to ask!
If you have any further questions that we have missed, then please ask in the comments section on the DA journal, or in QnA within our Discord (please note that questions asked in the Discord server will be seen and answered more quickly than in journal comments)!
Environments to choose from:
🌊 "eden's bath" Tide Pools 🌊
art by Mrgremble & Toothlessego
Item Needed: Pygmy Blue Sea Urchin
"An elusive creature that hides in hordes of more aggressive White Crowned Black Urchins, can be found only in "Edens Bath". The quills on this blue urchin is much shorter"
-------
Conflict:
The "Eden's Bath" Region was once a drought stricken wasteland with salt flats as far as the eye could see, but past efforts have brought the ocean back to these ancient lands to create beautiful shallows and infamous Tidepools full of wonder and relaxation.
Unfortunately, you've come at a bad time for a vacation-- but subsequently a good time for you if you're searching for the rare Pygmy Blue Sea Urchin! This isn't going to be an easy feat however, as this urchin has travelled to these tidepools with many angrier sea urchin buddies during their massive migration. The white crowned black urchin comes in droves and are nothing to scoff at, this is where this rare blue urchin likes to nestles itself into in order to gain protection from predators.
Safety in numbers for them will make this catch a hard one for your grem, so make sure to wear gloves and dive into these watery nurseries with caution!
💫 Glowing Star Caves 💫
art by Mrgremble & Toothlessego
Item Needed: Angler Fennel
"A fast growing plant that only sprouts in certain caves deep in crevices that are hard to reach, the tip of the plant glows to attract spore carrying bugs"
-------
Conflict:
It took you a long time to find such a rare cave, but tips from the locals have finally brought you here (which is a great accomplishment within itself). Hope you came prepared for some spelunking!
As you carefully work your way through many tight squeezes, Glowing Star Caves rewards you for your efforts and opens itself to a breathtaking landscape, where the grasses glow and the ceiling is peppered with brilliant luminescent stars that span for miles in a manner very true to it's name. A you focus on the glow overhead, you realize that this cave is actually home to a ton of sticky, glinting worm inhabitants hanging downward from the crag above. It's enough to make your fur stand on end in repulsion. This dizzying new world has almost made you forget what you came here for, but as you continue on in search to find the subtle red glow of the Angler Fern , your challenge had begun.
This fern likes high areas and tight spaces to grow. Will you be fighting through fur sticking worms to get to it? Show us what you've got!
❄️ Ghost Howler pine forest ❄️
art by Mrgremble & Toothlessego
Item Needed: Buffshroom
"These fungi only grow off of dead Ghost Howler pine bark in spring and are a favourite treat for the Ruffled Snapper Lizard. They are commonly found stockpiled away in their dens and are fiercely protected by them."
-------
Conflict:
Welcome to the frozen lands of the Ghost Howler Pine forest, where the pine's needles are as blue as sapphire gems & their bark as white as the snow laid around it. This isn't an easy environment to traverse through by any means, as the snow is thick and deep this time of year, with temperatures falling as low as -40˚C on a good day, enough to send a chill through even the thickest fur! Funnily enough however, braving the environment is only one part of your trial, your true objective is to go in search for the Robust and delicious Buffshroom, a highly sought after fungi that ...doesn't grow in this time of year? How will you get one? Well this is where the fun begins...
To collect this hard to find fungi, not only will you need to prepare for the cold, but you'll need to keep your wits about you in order to claim your prize from the Ruffled Snapper Lizard, a creature with 0 manners which has no intention of sharing their large hoards of Bushrooms with an outsider like you.
They have mouths to feed too! But maybe you can get them to give you one?
